The W. Kodak History

THE W. KODAK HISTORY

Family owned and operated for over 50 years. W. Kodak Jewelers was founded by Woody Kodak, in the 1970s. He got his start in jewelry along the boardwalks of Atlantic City, sparking his love and appreciation for both quality jewelry and outstanding customer service.

After graduating from ASU, the second generation of Kodaks, Brad and Creighton realized that something was missing in their beloved City of Hoboken: a luxury jeweler. They felt their community deserved access to the best service and highest quality of brands. It was then that they decided to open their luxury jewelry boutique downtown at 60 Newark Street prior to expanding to their flagship store in Uptown at 1123 Hudson Street.

Inside Tudor

THE BEGINNING OF THE BRAND

Established in February 1926, the house of “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, a watch dealer and craftsman, registered the trademark “The TUDOR.” TUDOR was established in Geneva for Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. After ten years, the house passed down the brand to Wilsdorf. As the Second World War came to an end, Hans Wilsdorf wanted to develop the brand into something more, to give it an identity truly its own. On March 6, 1946, he created “Montres TUDOR S.A.”, a technical feat, with models crafted for both men and women. Rolex would guarantee the technical, aesthetic, and functional characteristics, along with the distribution and after-sales service.

TUDOR History

“For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the TUDOR watch company.”

- H. Wilsdorf

JAY CHOU

Jay Chou is known for the daring and innovative spirit he brings to the art he creates. This fearless attitude inspired the short film TUDOR released, in which Chou effortlessly drives a sports car on a historical oval racetrack in Montlhéry, France. Eventually, he races through time, a fantastical moment inspired by Jay Chou’s art and the beloved time travel movies from the 80’s. The film represents the idea of iconic images of the past continuing to impact watchmaking culture, music, and other forms of art today. If you’re familiar with Chou’s work, you may spot the subtle homage to one of Chou’s earlier films, in which he played a car enthusiast.
